Keeping Our Events Safe and Enjoyable for Everyone

Merton Charity Events is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and family‑friendly environment for all attendees. In line with our licensing obligations, we actively promote the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, and the wellbeing of everyone attending our events.

Our Approach

We work closely with local authorities, partners, and event safety teams to:

  • Promote responsible behavior before and during the event

  • Provide clear information about staying safe and looking out for others

  • Encourage attendees to report any concerns to event staff or security

Pre‑event communications (including ticket information, email updates and website guidance) may include advice on:

  • Personal safety and safeguarding

  • Respectful behavior and zero tolerance of anti‑social conduct

  • Awareness of alcohol and drug‑related risks

Drugs and Alcohol Awareness

We recognise that drug misuse presents significant risks to individuals and the wider community. Drugs are illegal and can cause serious harm, including medical emergencies.

To help reduce risk, we:

  • Provide safety messaging to encourage informed and responsible decisions Promote awareness of the dangers of drugs and excessive alcohol consumption

  • Support a zero‑tolerance approach to the possession, use, or supply of illegal substances.

  • Ensure trained staff, security and welfare teams are available to respond to concerns

If You Need Help

If you feel unwell, unsafe, or concerned about someone else at the event: Speak to a member of event staff, steward, or security team Visit the designated welfare or medical point In an emergency, contact emergency services immediately

Working Together

Everyone has a role to play in keeping events safe. By attending, you agree to behave responsibly, respect others, and follow event guidance. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, please report it — your actions can help keep everyone safe.

Keeping Our Bars Safe and Responsible

Merton Charity Events is committed to the safe and responsible sale of alcohol at all events. Our bar operations are designed to promote the licensing objectives of preventing crime and disorder, protecting public safety, and safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

Bar Safety & Responsible Alcohol Policy

Age Verification – Challenge 25

We operate a Challenge 25 policy at all times:

  • Anyone who appears under the age of 25 will be required to present valid ID

  • Accepted forms of ID include passport, driving license, or PASS-accredited card

  • No valid ID = no sale

This helps prevent underage drinking and ensures compliance with UK licensing law.

Identification accepted at our bars is detailed below:

 ·       Valid passport with hologram

·       Valid photo card driving license with hologram

·       Proof of age card with the PASS logo, e.g. CitizenCard or My ID Card

Welfare & Safety – Ask for Angela

We support the Ask for Angela initiative:

  • Anyone who feels unsafe, vulnerable, or needs discreet assistance can approach bar staff and “Ask for Angela”

  • Staff are trained to respond appropriately and provide support, including contacting security or welfare services

Alcohol Service Controls

To support a safe event environment:

  • Staff will refuse service to anyone who appears intoxicated or behaving irresponsibly

  • Alcohol service may be limited at the discretion of bar management or event control

  • Free drinking water will be available to all attendees

  • Staff are trained in responsible alcohol retailing and incident awareness

No Glass Policy

For safety reasons:

No glass drink containers will be supplied to attendees. All drinks will be served in non-glass containers.

Where drinks are supplied in glass bottles, these will be decanted into a suitable non-glass container, and the original bottle will be retained by bar staff.

This reduces the risk of injury and anti-social behavior.

Drugs & Anti-Social Behavior

  • There is a zero-tolerance approach to illegal drugs

  • Any concerns will be reported to security and, where appropriate, the police

  • Individuals may be refused service, removed from the event, or reported
